MiaCMS - The New And Better CMS

The MiaCMS Story

MiaCMS is a fork of the Mambo CMS. Why a fork? We felt that the policies, processes, and priorities of the official Mambo Foundation were having a negative impact on the code and the community. Innovation, creativity, and team spirit have all but been eliminated. Thus the fork. Much of the same crew that built you Mambo 4.5.3+ through 4.6.3 are here now continuing development on the same award winning software base that everyone has come to know and love. Let us make clear we never gave up on the product or the community, but rather just the Foundation which controlled it.

The MiaCMS project was initiated by four individuals with profound knowledge of the Mambo CMS system. The founding team includes Al Warren (alwarren), Chad Auld (cauld), Ozgur Cem Sen (ocs), and Richard Ong (arpee). Together we have held the following roles within Mambo over the years; project leader, board member, steering committee member, core team leader, quality team leader, documentation team leader, and server administration. Those who know the project well will recognize those listed as what was the majority of the current core Mambo development team. Who is left to carry on Mambo development? The answer is not many. We plan to continue down the revolutionary path we laid out for Mambo before ultimately cut our ties to the Mambo Foundation. Just that we will be doing it as MiaCMS from this point forward. So again... this is a fork, we do give credit to Mambo for past work done, and we do aim to make MiaCMS even better (in fact we think it already is) !

You can find more about MiaCMS on http://miacms.org .

Easy Paypal Module 1.0.2 Released

Easy Paypal Module (v.1.0.2) for Mambo and Joomla! released. Easy Paypal Module comes in two flavours; Easy Pay Paypal (for Buy Now purposes), and Easy Donate Paypal (for Donation purposes). Most of the time, we don't really need a full blown and complex shopping cart solutions. It's an overkill to install and maintain a shopping cart when all you need is to collect donations, sell a single item, or charge service fees via Paypal.

Download

Easy Paypal extension is published on http://sourceforge.net/projects/easypaypal/

Easy Paypal module comes in two flavors.

Easy Paypal module implements 'Website Payments Standard Integration Guide' specification by Paypal and makes them available as module parameters. One of the neat things we like about Easy Paypal module is that, it allows you to switch back and forth between your Paypal Sandbox and actual Paypal account.

You can also use multiple instances of the module on different pages, for different products.

On top of that, each of those Paypal modules can be assigned different styling via CSS.

You can visually select which button to use for in your module, and style each module independently by assigning a custom CSS file and suffix to them.

Please visit our wiki. for further info.

Donations

If you did not donate during your download and want to drop in a few bucks after you checked it out, you can securely make a donation through Paypal.

Release of Mambo 4.5.6 - the end of an era

The Mambo Team announces the final release of the Mambo 4.5.x series of releases. This marks the end of an era for one of the web's most popular Free Open Source Software (FOSS) Content Management Systems (CMS). The enormous success of Mambo 4.5.x led to many forks, some successful, some less so. "Mambo 4.5 has been a great CMS, a good framework, and a great school to many of us", says Ozgur Cem Sen, Core Team Leader of Mambo.

AVChat Who's Online Module

We recently released a very neat "Who's Online" module for AVChat 2.1 with ninjoomla.com Extension Club.

The module is already in the works at http://www.ourbulgarianworld.com and the folks over there love it.

This simple AJAX module checks the "who's chatting" file of AVChat 2.1 component, and displays the user information available in that file. AVChat Who's Online

  • Chat nick name
  • Gender
  • If the user has a camera
  • If the user has a microphone

If you're interested in implementing a chat extension on your website, make sure you consider AVChat ( http://www.avchat.net ).

QA - the most important "uncool" job around.

Here is an article by me, recently posted on Mambo Foundation's web site.

QA - the most important "uncool" job around.

Written by Ozgur Cem Sen

Written by: Ozgur Cem Sen, Team Leader, Quality Assurance & Release Team - (read an introduction to Cem here)

From a software developer’s perspective QA is the most boring and unnecessary part of software development. "How dare someone check my state-of-art code and tell me that it is not working? Tsk tsk tsk…" I cannot name one software developer, who never said that. I have known many, plus I am still one of them – been there, still doing it.

moseasymedia Showcase

mosesaymedia 2.0 for Mambo, Joomla!, WikkaWikki Released on April 14, 2008

moseasymedia will run on Mambo 4.5.6, Mambo 4.6, Joomla! 1.0, Joomla! 1.5 and WikkaWiki.

We have a two new sites to demonstrate moseasymedia 2.0 magic ;)

The following pages will demonstrate the capabilities of moseasymedia 1.0.4.

moseasymedia supports media plugins and media players that support wmv, wma, divx, midi, avi, mpg, mpeg, asf, asx, swf, flv, dcr, dir, mov, mp4, ram, rv, rpm, ra, mp3, playlist files (RSS, Atom, XSPF) extensions to name a few. That pretty much covers all the media formats that exist today. Under the circumstances when the media type cannot be determined from the extension, moseasymedia tries to match the media's host domain with it's supported players.

moseasymedia supports the following players out of the box.

  • Windows Media Player
  • Flash
  • Shockwave
  • Quicktime
  • Real Player
  • DivX
  • JW FLV Player
  • JW Media Player
  • JW MP3 Player
  • XSPF Web Player Extended & Slim

You may not be able to view some of the demo pages, possibly because of missing plugin or codec.

*the space between the "{" and "moseasymedia media=.........." is put in there to demostrate the moseasymedia tag to the reader. The actual video embedding tag must not have it.

Feel free to offer your videos and songs for the demo pages.

moseasymedia Support

If you don't hear from me in 24 hours about your question, please send me another message. It's probably because, I missed it amongst other emails.

Unless there is an emergency on my side, you should at least receive a personal receipt of acknowlegement from me - not an automated email that says, thanks for contacting us, yada yada yada, blah blah blah..".

A wiki (or a forum), and a support section will be added to ocszone.com.
That should happen very soon. And it happened; support forum is open.

About

OCS Software Solutions is incorporated in 2005 as a personal venture, with the idea of providing well designed, robust software while keeping the simplicity and easy of use in mind. And most importantly excellent service and support to its clientèle and users.

ocszone.com was brought online in April 2007 as the web-front of OCS Software Solutions.

Our motto is to add a personal touch to the customer(client) communications. Instead of sending out uptight emails starting with "to whom it may concern", we say "hi", or we wouldn't mind emails that greet us with "what's up" even "wad up dude". The whole point is enjoying ourselves and smiling while we are doing what we are doing. This does not mean that we do not take our business seriously. Just a different approach. We enjoy it, hopefully you will too.

contact.

* ocs does NOT stand for "Office Communications Server", "Officer Candidate School", "Obsessive Compulsive Syndrome", "Online Consultation Service", "Overhead Contact System", "Oracle Collaboration Suite", "Observational Coding System" etc... It is simply the initials of one of the founders.
